BERLIN (MAY 28 thru JULY 3, 2010) – The Connecticut Cabaret Theatre is pleased to announce its production of the heartwarming play, ON GOLDEN POND, directed and produced by Kris McMurray, written by Ernest Thompson. This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. He is a retired professor, nearing eighty, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued, observant and eager for life as ever. Ethel, ten years younger, and the perfect foil for Norman, delights in all
the small things that have enriched and continue to enrich their long life together. They are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the "grandchild" the elderly couple have longed for, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness—and slang—in return. In the end, as the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll, and in the final, deeply moving moments of the play, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Time, they know, is now against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits.

Artistic Director Kris McMurray has assembled a talented cast to capture the essence of Golden Pond somewhere deep in Maine. Broadway veteran Carolyn Kirsch and Tom Roohr play the loving couple, Ethel and Norman Thayer. Together they bring to life on stage the love that these two have had for over 48 years. Barbara Horan plays the sensitive daughter who longs to do something right for her father. She brings her boyfriend's son, played by Cole Bruni, to stay with her parent on Golden Pond while she vacations in Europe. The boy could be the key to opening Norman up to new things in his old life. Also featuring David Wall, Joe Vigneri and Vicki Todd, this light hearted family comedy is one not to miss.

What exactly is the CT Cabaret Theatre? It is a non-equity professional cabaret theatre that produces Broadway-style musicals and comedies year-round. Being a cabaret theatre means you sit at cozy round tables where you are invited to bring in whatever you like to eat or drink. Hence our motto being "BRING YOUR OWN, WE'LL PROVIDE THE REST". We do have a small dessert bar that provides a variety of treats and beverages to purchase as well.

ON GOLDEN POND runs every Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm from MAY 28th thru JULY 3rd, 2010. Doors open at 7:15pm. Tickets are $30 per person. ALL MAJOR Credit Cards are accepted.
