BERLIN (September 4 - October 10, 2009) - The Connecticut Cabaret Theatre is pleased to announce its production of the Beth Henley's Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award winning dramatic comedy"CRIMES OF THE HEART", directed by Kris McMurray.

The scene is Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband
in the stomach. Their troubles, grave and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her. In the end the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future—but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended.

The Cabaret has assembled an amazingly talented cast. Barbara Horan, Stephanie Layne and Catherine Rogala form the heart of the story, as the three Magrath sisters.  Barbara Horan isn't a stranger to the stage. A wonderful actress, she plays the eldest sister who seems to be sacrificing her life to help her sisters and other family members. Stephanie Layne steps into the role of Meg, the lackluster singer of the family trying to make it but not quite getting there. Catherine Rogala is making her CT Cabaret debut as the youngest and most troubled sister, Babe. After shooting her abusive husband in the stomach, the Macgrath sister's relationship are tested and strengthened. Vicki Todd, Joseph Vigneri and Alex Papacoda,  all making their CT Cabaret Theatre debut also round out the cast in this touching yet funny dark comedy. Individually each performer brings a unique spark to the stage, and yet all together they set the show on fire. Emotions run up and down with laughter, tears, anger, fear and happiness. They share memories and regrets. Visit past demons and face future ones. All in all, this show is one not to miss.
